Drs. Gilliland & Harrington are members of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS). As such, they are the one of the only groups in North Texas practicing Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery in which both physicians are members of ASOPRS. Drs. Gilliland and Harrington are both board certified Ophthalmologists with specialized training in Plastic Surgery. Because of their training and knowledge of the eye and plastic surgery, they are uniquely qualified to perform aesthetic and reconstructive surgery in and around the eye.

Grant D. Gilliland, M.D.

 

Dr. Gilliland was born in Dallas, Texas and raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. After pursuing an undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Baylor University, he attended the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He graduated at the top of his class and became a member of Alpha Omega Alpha - Honor Medical Society. His training continued at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas in an Internal Medicine internship followed by an Ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Gilliland then completed a fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center where he was voted as the best teaching faculty member. He is presently board certified in Ophthalmology.

 

Currently, Dr. Gilliland is an Associate Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and an attending physician at Baylor Medical Center. He is also on staff at several other local hospitals. Dr. Gilliland is one of the team physicians for the DALLAS STARS NHL hockey team and has been a team physician for the DALLAS MAVERICKS NBA basketball team. Dr. Gilliland is actively engaged in teaching Ophthalmology, Maxillofacial surgery and residents from several other specialties at Baylor Medical Center and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

 

Dr. Gilliland has published numerous articles in leading medical journals and written chapters on several different topics in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in several leading medical textbooks and online reference journals. In addition, he has engaged in clinical and basic science research relating to orbital fractures and wound strength - publishing a landmark article on the subject. With various medical technology companies he has pioneered a new surgical treatment for Grave's disease and has published his results in a peer reviewed journal. In addition, he holds a patent on a novel medical device to improve ocular safety during surgery. He has been invited to lecture on various topics in Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery across the country and abroad.

 

Dr. Gilliland has been picked as one of D MAGAZINES top doctors for several years, one of America's TOP OPHTHALMOLOGISTS by the consumer research council of America and as one of THE BEST DOCTORS IN AMERICA by Woodward/White Publications. Dr. Gilliland is a fellow of the AMERICAN SOCIETY OF OPHTHALMIC PLASTIC AND RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY.

 

In addition, Dr. Gilliland is active and on the board of advisors of the LEAP Foundation - a non-profit charity which provides free medical and surgical services to underprivileged children in third world countries. Recently, he received an achievement award for his charitable service with the LEAP Foundation.

ojoJohn N. Harrington, M.D.

 

Dr. Harrington, a native Texan, received B.A. and B.S. degrees from Texas A&M University and pursued a Master’s degree at Stanford University before receiving his Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine.  He then served a rotating internship at Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco and a residency in Ophthalmology at Scott and White Clinic before completing a fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at The University of California Medical Center in San Francisco.

 

After serving with the U. S. Army Medical Corps in Vietnam where he was awarded the Bronze Star, Dr. Harrington, established his private practice in 1974, becoming the first fully-trained Ophthalmic Plastic Surgeon in Dallas. Dr. Harrington is a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center where he was awarded the Outstanding Clinical Faculty Participation Award, and serves as Director of Ophthalmic Plastic and  Reconstructive  Surgery at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas where he also teaches resident physicians.  Board certified in Ophthalmology, Dr. Harrington is a fellow of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, serving as president of that organization as well as representing it in the House of Delegates of the American Medical Association. In addition, Dr. Harrington is a member of the American College of Surgeons and has been a fellow of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.  He has served as President of the Dallas Academy of Ophthalmology.  He was awarded the prestigious Honor Award and Senior Achievement Awards by the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

 

Dr. Harrington, the author of numerous articles in leading medical journals and the contributor to several textbooks and online reference journals on various topics related to Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive surgery, has also served on the editorial board of Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery.  He has lectured nationally and internationally in the field of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. 

 

Dr. Harrington has been listed in “The Best Doctors in America by Woodward/White Publications since 1996 and has also been recognized as one of the “Top Doctors in Dallas” by D Magazine. Dr. Harrington is listed in Who’s Who in Medicine and Health Care, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, and Who’s Who in Education.

 

Dr. Harrington has participated in Project Orbis, a non-profit organization, teaching Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery to physicians in third world countries. Dr. Harrington is a member of the Order of St. John, an ancient chivalrous organization supporting eye care in the Middle East.

 

A member of the High School All-American Swimming Team and selected to the NCAA Coaches All-American Swimming Team in college, Dr. Harrington has an active interest in sports and serves as a team physician for the NHL Dallas Stars,  has been a team physician for the  NBA Dallas Mavericks and has worked with the medical staff of the NHL Dallas Cowboys.
